Create this beautiful 3D crochet floral stem inspired by the flower arrangement in the reference image. The design features two large pink flowers, textured burgundy centers, cream stamens, olive-green leaves, a small flower bud, and a long crocheted stem.
Note: This pattern is written as an original reconstruction based on the photograph. Because the original stitch pattern is not visible, the stitch counts may differ from the handmade piece in the image.

1. Large Pink Flower
The flower has approximately 6 large pointed petals surrounding a raised burgundy center.
Petal – make 6
With dusty pink yarn:
Row 1: Ch 2. Work 3 sc into the second chain from hook. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each stitch across. Turn.
(6 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc across. Turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, (sc, inc) repeat across. Turn.
(9 sts)
Row 5: Ch 1, sc across. Turn.
Row 6: Ch 1, (2 sc, inc) repeat across. Turn.
(12 sts)
Rows 7–9: Sc across.
Row 10: Ch 1, dec, sc across, dec. Turn.
Row 11: Sc across.
Row 12: Dec across until 3–4 stitches remain.
Fasten off.
Use a yarn needle to gently shape the petal. The outer edge should curve slightly backward while the center remains raised.
Make six petals.
Assemble the flower
Arrange the six petals in a circle, overlapping their bases slightly. Sew them together at the bottom.
Do not flatten the petals completely—the slightly cupped shape gives the flower the dimensional appearance seen in the photograph.
2. Burgundy Flower Center
The dark center consists of several small raised sections.
Center base
With burgundy yarn:
Round 1: MR, 6 sc.
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch.
(12 sts)
Round 3: Sc in next stitch, inc around.
(18 sts)
Round 4: Sc around.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Place the center over the joined petals and sew securely.
Raised center segments
To create the textured dark bumps:
Make approximately 10–12 small bobble/puff sections in burgundy.
For each one:
- Insert hook into the center area.
- Pull up a loop.
- Repeat several times in the same location.
- Yarn over and pull through the loops to form a small puff.
- Secure the base firmly.
Space the bumps evenly around the flower center.
This produces the distinctive raised dark ring visible in the reference.
3. Cream Stamens
The flower has a cluster of cream-colored stamens extending from the center.
Make approximately 8–10 stamens.
With cream yarn:
- Attach yarn to the center.
- Ch 3–4.
- Sl st back toward the center.
- Make a small 3–4 stitch bobble at the end.
- Fasten securely.
Repeat around the center.
For a more dimensional result, use slightly different chain lengths so the stamens sit at different heights.
Finally, make a small cream crochet ball or cluster in the very center.
4. Crochet Leaf
The leaves in the photograph have a pointed oval shape with a prominent central vein.
Make as many leaves as required—approximately 8–10 leaves for the complete stem.
With olive-green yarn:
Foundation: Ch 11.
Starting in the second chain from hook:
- sc
- hdc
- dc
- dc
- dc
- hdc
- sc
- sl st
Continue around the opposite side of the chain.
On the second side:

Sl st at the base.
Fasten off.
Leaf vein
Using a darker or matching green yarn, sew a line of small stitches from the base to the tip.
Then add several diagonal stitches branching from the central vein.
This creates the leaf-vein texture seen in the photograph.
5. Leaf Stem
For each leaf, make a small green stem.
Ch 8–15, depending on where the leaf will sit.
Sl st back along the chain.
Sew the leaf to the end of the stem.
For the leaves attached directly to the main flower stem, continue crocheting the branch rather than fastening off.
6. Flower Bud
The small pink buds give the arrangement a more natural appearance.
Bud
With light pink yarn:
Round 1: MR, 6 sc.
Round 2: Inc around.
(12 sts)
Rounds 3–5: Sc around.
Lightly stuff the bud.
Round 6: Dec around.
(6 sts)
Fasten off and pull the opening closed.
Bud base
With green yarn, make a small cup around the bottom of the bud:
MR, 6 sc.
Increase to approximately 10–12 stitches, then work 1–2 rounds without increasing.
Sew the green base around the pink bud.
7. Long Crochet Stem
With olive-green yarn, make a long chain approximately 30–45 cm, depending on the desired finished length.
Work slip stitches back along the chain to create a narrow, firm stem.
For a stronger stem, place floral wire inside while crocheting.
Branches
At the locations where leaves and flowers will be attached:
- Chain 8–15 stitches.
- Slip stitch back down the chain.
- Attach a leaf.
- Continue crocheting the main stem.
Arrange the branches asymmetrically, as natural flowers rarely have perfectly even spacing.
8. Attaching the Flowers
Position the flowers approximately 10–15 cm apart.
Sew the first flower firmly to the top of the main stem.
Continue the stem downward.
Attach the second flower slightly below and offset it from the first.
Add leaves around each flower, alternating their direction.
Finally, attach one or two small branches containing the crochet buds.
9. Finishing and Shaping
This step is important for achieving the look of the photograph.
Gently shape each petal with your fingers:
- Curve the outer edges slightly upward.
- Keep the center raised.
- Spread the petals evenly.
- Bend some leaves slightly forward and others backward.
- Curve the main stem naturally rather than keeping it perfectly straight.
If desired, lightly steam-block the individual pieces before assembly. Avoid placing a hot iron directly on the crochet.
Suggested Color Palette

|---|---|
| Large petals | Dusty blush pink |
| Bud | Soft pink |
| Flower center | Burgundy / wine |
| Stamens | Ivory / cream |
| Leaves | Sage / olive green |
| Stem | Dark olive green |
Finished Arrangement
For a piece similar to the reference photograph, make:
- 2 large flowers
- 1–2 small buds
- 8–10 leaves
- 1 long main stem
- Several small branching stems
- 8–10 cream stamens per flower
The result is a dimensional crochet floral stem that works beautifully as wall décor, a botanical applique, a bag embellishment, a brooch, or a handmade bouquet.
