1. Central Floral Panel

The centerpiece consists of repeating large flowers connected with sage-green leaves.

Flower Center

With taupe yarn:

Round 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 2, work 12 dc into the ring. Sl st to the first dc.
Round 2: Ch 1. Work 2 sc in each stitch around. Sl st to join. Fasten off.

Petals

Join cream yarn between any two center stitches.

Round 3: Ch 3, 3 dc in the same space, ch 3, sl st in the next space. Repeat around to create approximately 10–12 rounded petals.

For fuller petals, work 4 dc instead of 3.

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

2. Crochet Leaves

Use sage-green yarn.

For each leaf:

Row 1: Ch 9.

Beginning in the 2nd ch from hook, work:

sc, hdc, dc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sc

Work the same stitches along the opposite side of the foundation chain.

Sl st at the base and fasten off.

Make approximately 6–8 leaves around each flower, arranging them naturally between the petals.

3. Connecting the Flowers

Place the flowers in a straight line down the center of the runner.

Connect the flowers using small chains and slip stitches.

A simple connection can be made with:

Ch 5, sl st to the next leaf, ch 5, sl st to the next flower.

Continue until all flowers form one continuous floral strip.

4. Decorative Side Motifs

The sides of the runner feature repeating taupe semicircular/fan motifs surrounded by cream crochet work.

With taupe yarn:

Round 1: Ch 4 and join to form a ring.
Round 2: Ch 2, work 12 dc into the ring.
Round 3: Work 2 dc in each stitch across approximately half of the circle.
Round 4: Ch 1, sc across.
Round 5: Add cream yarn and work a decorative scalloped edge around the motif.

Repeat these motifs along both long sides of the runner.

5. Inner Border

Join cream yarn around the central floral section.

Work several rows of simple openwork:

Row 1: Sc, ch 2, sk 2 sts — repeat around.

Row 2: In each ch-2 space, work sc, ch 3, sc.

Row 3: Work small picot or shell details along the edge.

This creates the delicate openwork appearance visible between the flowers and outer border.

6. Main Outer Border

The outer border gives the runner its structured rectangular shape.

Work several rounds around the entire piece.

Border Round 1

With cream:

Sc in next stitch, ch 2, sk 1 — repeat around.

Border Round 2

Work 3 dc in each chain space, separated by a sc.

Border Round 3

Work small cream shells:

5 dc in the same space, sc in the next space.

Repeat around the entire runner.

Final Decorative Round

Add small picots:

sc, ch 3, sl st into the first chain.

Repeat around the edge.

This produces the delicate scalloped edging seen around the runner.

7. Lower Scalloped Motifs

For the bottom and top ends, create larger rounded motifs using taupe yarn.

Each motif can be made as a half-circle:

Row 1: Ch 4, work 10 dc into the first chain.

Row 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch across.

Row 3: Ch 2, (2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next) repeat.

Add a cream edging using sc and small picots.

Attach the motifs evenly along the short ends of the runner.

8. Decorative Tassels

The tassels give this runner its distinctive finished look.

Use taupe and sage-green yarn.

To make one tassel:

  1. Wrap yarn around a piece of cardboard approximately 12–15 cm wide.
  2. Wrap 30–40 times.
  3. Tie the top securely.
  4. Cut the opposite end.
  5. Wrap another piece of yarn around the bundle to create the tassel head.
  6. Trim the ends evenly.
  7. Attach the tassel to the bottom edge of the runner.

Alternate the colors:

Taupe → Sage → Taupe → Sage

until the entire edge is decorated.

Finishing

Carefully weave in all loose ends. Lightly block the runner to straighten the rectangular shape and open the lacework.

Place it on a wooden dining table for a warm, rustic look. The combination of cream, taupe, and sage green gives the finished piece a soft vintage farmhouse aesthetic.
